Twelve newly elected members of the House of Representatives, chosen in recent bye-elections nationwide, were sworn in by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during Thursday's plenary session. The oath of office was administered to them following the bye-elections and rerun elections held by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 17 federal constituencies. INEC conducted these elections across the country, with two deemed inconclusive, while certificates of return were issued to 15 winners. The newly sworn-in members represent various constituencies, including Kebbi, Ondo, Lagos, Kaduna, Plateau, Katsina, Yobe, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Anambra, Jigawa, and Sokoto states. Despite the election outcomes, only twelve members were present for the oath-taking ceremony during the plenary session. These bye-elections were necessitated by the resignation or demise of incumbent lawmakers, leading to vacancies declared by the National Assembly and state houses of assemblies. Additionally, INEC conducted rerun elections in certain constituencies as per the orders of election tribunals.
