A US official responsible for diplomatic security was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the events of January 6th at the US Capitol. Kevin Alstrup, who previously worked for the State Department, is facing four misdemeanor charges, including entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct. The FBI used evidence from Capitol devices and social media posts in the arrest. Mr. Alstrup, who no longer works for the State Department, had served as a security officer for Inter-Con Security Systems and held a top-secret clearance. The charges against him are similar to those faced by other nonviolent participants in the Capitol breach. The FBI affidavit detailed his actions during the riot, including taking photos inside the Capitol for about 28 minutes. Over 1,265 defendants have been charged in connection with the Capitol riot, with more than 900 pleading guilty or convicted.
